THE AGENT CANNOT AUTHORISE ITSELF.
AuthorityClaw is a long-running accounts-payable agent. A local model reads invoices; a deterministic authority gate decides whether money may move; a simulated rail executes only against valid receipts. Competition result: First Place, NVIDIA Claw Agent Challenge, London — awarded 6 October 2026.
FIRST PLACE
NVIDIA CLAW AGENT CHALLENGE
Awarded by NVIDIA for AuthorityClaw: a payments agent whose model proposes and whose deterministic gate decides — with live revocation, prompt-injection resistance and tamper-evident receipts.
Technical provenance — how this result was assembled
FOUR BUILDING BLOCKS · ONE PARALLEL EPILOGUEAuthorityClaw is not an isolated demo, and these pages were not a pre-written roadmap. Four building blocks later converged in the pilot that NVIDIA judged First Place. A separate epilogue applies the same evidence discipline to an unrelated engine. Everything the model touches passes through a deterministic layer.
Nemotron × FOL Evidence Gate
Can a local multimodal model be the perception layer of a compliance agent without being its authority? Nemotron read synthetic passports; a deterministic MRZ gate and a SWI-Prolog policy layer refused malformed extractions — NEED_MORE_EVIDENCE, explained by the model but never overridden.
Problem Space & Use Cases
Where does agent authority actually break? Banking onboarding and transaction authorisation, correspondent banking, digital identity — the general question of agentic identity and transactions: how does a counterparty know on whose authority an agent is acting?
NemoClaw on the Same Box
NemoClaw 1.0.30 (bundled v0.0.38, OpenShell 0.0.36) was present on the same Olares One. Evaluated pros/cons: useful as an orchestration shell; for an authority-critical path the verified run used AuthorityClaw's own persistent Python harness calling the local model directly, plus an OpenClaw/NemoClaw-compatible authority-gate skill.
AuthorityClaw — the Pilot
The simulated scenario below: six invoices, a live revocation, a bank-detail change, two prompt-injection attempts. The verified run used local Qwen3.6-27B perception behind FOL-style authority logic — the separation first tested on Nemotron in Block A. NVIDIA awarded the demonstration First Place.
Parallel Exhibit — Proof of Exit
Out of curiosity, the same discipline was applied to a different engine: a real, completed Moth Atlas graph-v1 job (emu/aer, 4,096 shots) over a 4×4 maze — with an exhaustive classical proof over all 65,536 worlds and an honestly reported requested-vs-observed mismatch (ZZ=0 → ZZ=1). The mismatch remains visible so others can inspect it or try again. The transferable lesson: engine output is evidence, not interpretation — quantum or classical.
What happens — and what the model cannot do

▚ WHAT THE MODEL CANNOT DO
It cannot grant itself authority. It cannot bypass amount, supplier or bank-detail checks. It cannot keep acting after its human delegation is revoked. It cannot make the rail pay without a valid receipt. Instructions inside an invoice are data, not authority.
The gate is three-valued: ALLOW / HOLD / REJECT — plus UNKNOWN: when nothing fails but evidence is missing, the payment routes to a human. Missing evidence is never read as a yes.

▚ BANK-DETAIL CHANGE
A known supplier sent new account details. The payment stayed HELD for out-of-band verification.
▚ PROMPT INJECTION
Instructions inside an invoice were treated as untrusted data. The unapproved £4,900 payment was REFUSED.
▚ LIVE REVOCATION
After the director revoked Tom, the next ordinary invoice was REFUSED — the agent's inherited mandate no longer stood.
▚ WHY IT HELD
Every verdict traces to current authority state, not to model confidence. Receipts make the trail inspectable.
Environment & verified boundary

This verified run used AuthorityClaw's own persistent Python harness and called the existing local model service directly. An OpenClaw/NemoClaw-compatible authority-gate skill is included.
Boundary: fictional company, simulated Faster Payments rail, no real money moved. This is the agent-side piece of work on cryptographic authorisation for AI agents in regulated finance — W3C DIDs and verifiable credentials answering how a counterparty knows on whose authority an agent is acting.
Honest limitations
READ BEFORE SHARINGDemonstration, not a production KYC/AML or payments system; not regulatory approval. Simulated rail; fictional counterparties. The gate enforces a captured authority model — real deployment needs key management, human review UI, audit export, and legal review of the mandate semantics. First Place at a hackathon recognises the problem-to-product-to-engineering approach; it is not technical validation, regulatory approval or proof of compliance.
